Administrative Captain George Ritter oversees the operations of the uniformed patrol division. He coordinates and records the training of department personnel and assists the Major with public information duties as needed.
Captain Ritter started his law enforcement career with Trail Creek Police Department in 1982, and came to the LaPorte County Sheriff's Department in 1985. He has held several positions within the department including: Patrolman, Shift Sergeant, Detective Sergeant, Shift Captain, as well as his current position as Administrative Captain. In the past, he has been a member of the Emergency Response Team (ERT) and the Underwater Rescue and Recovery Team (SCUBA).
Captain Ritter has received training in a variety of law enforcement related areas, including management and leadership, community policing, criminal investigations, homicide investigations, vehicle theft, arson investigation, hostage negotiations, gang crime investigation, and narcotic investigations.
Captain Ritter graduated in the 72nd class of the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy in 1983 and graduated in the 185th session of the FBI National Academy at Quantico, Virginia in 1996. He also graduated in the class of 2000 of Leadership LaPorte County.
