MERIT DIVISION

The Merit Division of the La Porte County Sheriff’s Office is comprised of deputies who are trained and certified police officers through the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy Training Board.

Deputies enforce Indiana criminal law and traffic laws, along with enforcing La Porte County ordinances. From time to time, deputies are also asked to assist the Civil Division with civil process matters. Within the agency, the Merit Division is broken down into several more divisions. Deputies are assigned to these different divisions and are provided with specialized training to assist them in completing daily tasks. These divisions include Criminal Investigations, Drug Task Force, Patrol, Warrants, Fugitive Apprehension Street Team, School Resource Officers, Criminal Interdiction, Highway Interdiction, Commercial Motor Vehicle Enforcement, and K-9. Additionally, advanced specialized training is provided to deputies who are members of La Porte County Sheriff’s Teams.
